Assumptions and Questions Regarding the Digital Counter

This are automatic machines which are used to measure the times a thing or event has occurred. For example, if I am writing this article, the page itself is counting the number of words I have written or will be writing. So, I can say that the notepad is also working as a Digital Counter. But it is very different except for its performing function. It can be available in two variants depending upon its power usage- electronic and non- electronic. It can be electronic, i.e., can only function when electricity is supplied to it or non- electronic, i.e., can even work without electricity.
